Dubai’s desert safaris run year-round, but the season you book in changes the experience more than most people expect — not whether the tour happens, but how comfortable it is and how it feels.
October to April: peak season, and for good reason. Daytime temperatures sit in a comfortable range and the desert cools off pleasantly after sunset, which is exactly when the evening safari’s BBQ dinner and live entertainment happen. This is also when Dubai sees the most visitors overall, so camps run at full capacity and popular evening slots can sell out a few days ahead in December and January especially. If you’re set on a specific date — a birthday, an anniversary, a short layover — book at least 3–4 days ahead during these months.
May to September: hot, quiet, and genuinely a different kind of trip. Midday desert temperatures climb well above what most visitors are used to, which is exactly why the morning safari matters more in summer — pickup happens early, before the heat builds, and you’re back at your hotel before the hottest part of the day. Evening safaris still run, just later in the pickup window, timed so dune bashing happens as the temperature starts dropping. The upside of visiting in summer: camps are far less crowded, and prices are often lower.
Morning or evening — does the season change the answer? In cooler months, evening is the classic choice because the sunset and cooler night air are part of the appeal. In peak summer, a lot of first-time visitors are more comfortable with a morning safari, simply because it avoids the hottest hours entirely. Either way, dune bashing itself happens at roughly the same intensity regardless of season — the difference is air temperature, not activity level.
Ramadan. Desert safaris run during Ramadan, but timings shift — evening pickup is later, timed around Iftar, and the camp experience takes on a different, quieter character. If you’re visiting during Ramadan, it’s worth asking specifically about Ramadan timings when you book rather than assuming standard pickup windows apply.
The short answer: October–April for the classic postcard evening-safari experience with the biggest crowds; May–September for a quieter, better-value trip if you don’t mind the heat and stick to a morning slot.
